Relocating to coastal San Diego is a dream for many, and why not, the weather is near-perfect year round and the choice of communities throughout San Diego offers something for everyone!
For those who want to be surrounded by like-minded seniors, there are eighteen retirement communities in San Diego, all located in North County where land was once considered cheap and abundant. Aside from the designated senior communities, single story homes are often at the top of San Diego retirees wish-lists, with walkable neighborhoods and close proximity to some of the nation’s leading medical facilities, like Scripps and UCSD.
While San Diego is one of the nicest places to live, keep in mind it comes at a cost. San Diego homes are expensive relative to other retirement options, like Palm Springs or Arizona or even Florida. If price is your most critical factor, San Diego might not be for you. If its the San Diego scenery, climate, and lifestyle that appeal to you, then ask yourself what type of lifestyle you want to lead. Do you want lots of clubs and activities? Then you might do well in one of the larger retirement communities like Ocean Hills Country Club or Oaks North on the high end, and Oceana offering more affordability. Don’t need all the clubs and organized activities? Then consider one of the smaller communities like Pacifica, Las Brisas or Emerald Lake.
